CASE STUDY · LAWN CARE · REALGREEN
GreenLine Lawn Care: flat for three years, then +38% in one season
A $1.2M fertilization & weed control company with great technicians, loyal customers, and a marketing program stuck in 2018. Here's what changed.
GreenLine Lawn Care is a fertilization and weed control company doing about $1.2M a year on RealGreen: six trucks, a tight route map, and a renewal rate most owners would envy. What it didn't have was growth. Revenue had been flat for three straight seasons.
The problem: good company, invisible marketing
When we ran GreenLine's free snapshot, the picture was familiar. A WordPress site, built years earlier, loading in a little over four seconds on mobile and running nineteen plugins, two of which had been abandoned by their developers. New-customer flow relied on referrals and a Google Ads account managed by a generalist agency that sent one PDF a month. Nobody could answer the owner's simplest question: "What did we actually make from marketing last month?"
The deeper miss was invisible from any dashboard. GreenLine's technicians were logging condition codes in RealGreen every day: thin turf, grub activity, weeds in beds. Hundreds of documented upsell opportunities a season, and every single one of them died in the field notes. Nobody had time to turn them into quotes.
The program: make the field data sell
We rebuilt GreenLine's marketing as a system rather than a set of services, in four moves:
• A new website with instant quotes. No WordPress, no plugins: a sub-second site on our own platform. The centerpiece: a visitor types their address, DeepLawn measures the lawn, and GreenLine's real pricing matrix returns a good-better-best program quote they can accept and pay on the spot. Season-smart logic handled the mid-season joiners automatically ("Round 1 unavailable after March 15: priced at 5 applications, auto-renews at 6").
• LSA plus Google Ads, actually managed. We launched Local Services Ads with the LSA Lead Center (every lead rated, noted, and disputed when it wasn't a real lead) and rebuilt the Google Ads account with daily budget pacing across both.
• Condition-code upsells. The big one. Our RealGreen integration now reads technician condition codes, matches them to services, prices the property, and sends a branded quote the same day, then follows up automatically until it's booked.
• Neighborhood postcards. Every completed job triggers our neighborhood marketing engine: surrounding homes are identified, measured, and priced, and each receives a postcard with a real quote for their lawn, not a generic coupon.
What the numbers did
The first condition-code quote went out eleven days after kickoff: a $340 aeration and overseeding job, accepted from the customer's phone in under an hour. By season's end the pattern was established: upsell quotes went out the same day techs flagged a condition, and roughly a third of them booked with zero human involvement.
LSA became the cheapest lead source GreenLine had ever run. With every lead rated and bad ones disputed through the feedback loop, cost per lead settled at $27, and, more importantly, the office could see on their phones which leads were real, because every call was recorded, transcribed, and rated by call AI.
The postcards compounded quietly. Forty neighborhoods received measured, priced offers over the season, and because every card carried a tracked QR code, GreenLine could watch route density climb street by street. New program sales finished the year up 38% after three flat seasons.
Honest footnote: not everything was instant. Organic rankings took about five months to move meaningfully, and the first month of LSA included a batch of junk leads before the dispute-and-rating loop trained lead quality up. The automations carried the early results while SEO caught up.
